See our overspending series is these seems like your story. You can do it.

Have you seen the Seinfeld episode where Kramer buys the bulk food at Costco. Funny because he lives in an apartment, and he no where to store all that food. Yes you can save allot of money when you buy food and groceries, and most Americans do have somewhere to store bulk food items. If you buy all your canned goods, boxes goods, and preservatives at a bulk food store, you can save quite a bit of money by year end.

Our family is guilty of keeping an extra automobile insured and plated and we rarely use it. When we do use the extra vehicle it really saves the day, but we COULD have made it by without it. Basically, it’s just handy and not necessary. I still look at the extra vehicle like flushing cash down the toilet, and it’s something I always say I’m going to change. By the time you add up the oil changes, the fuel, parts, repairs, and insurance, it’s complete waste of money.

I see families spend ridiculous money on video store movie rentals, digital cable movie rental, satellite TV movie rental, or theatre tickets. What I do is save my money and WAIT for the new releases to come out on the free movie channels. It’s hard to do when the word of mouth on a new flick is great, but if you just wait, you’ll see everything in due time. If you have kids don’t have a television service that allows movie rentals at $4.99 per pay view. This REALLY adds up at the end of the month. Many times the kids will rent the same movie 2-3 times and your monthly bills can be up to $150 – $200 a month.

Saving money by only having your wine, beer or spirits at home (or in a private setting) will save you a HUGE amount of money. If you a non-drinker then this post is not worth reading, but if you have a drink (or once and awhile, you can save some big bucks. Of course there is the exception to the rule, as in a an important social or professional gathering – but you can still be moderate and only have one glass of wine or beer. There are some people that would save over 1000 dollars a month by cutting out their alcohol intake.
