Financial Definitions – Authorized Capital

Authorized capital, in the financing industry means the number of shares one company can sell. The amount of shares a company is allowed to sell depends on how much money the company needs and the percentage of stock dilution the shareholders agree to withstand. When these shares are sold off to the public at large, they are then known as “issued capital”.
